GRIMALDI IN CRASH NEAR TALLMANSVILLE ; ALCOHOL SUSPECTED; BOND REVOKED

Sidney “Sid” Grimaldi, local businessman who is currently charged with the arson of his home in 1998 and killing his identical triplets in the resulting fire, was involved in an auto accident on Tallmansville Road late last night. Grimaldi’s 2017 Ford Expedition was found on its roof in a ditch along the road by passersby just before midnight. Emergency crews responded and extracted Grimaldi, who did not sustain any serious injuries.

Sources familiar with the accident say that when he was removed from his vehicle, Grimaldi had slurred speech and could not walk on his own. Officers suspected Grimaldi had been driving under the influence and took him to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon to draw blood. While the results of the tests are not back yet, Grimaldi was returned to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail for violating the conditions of his bond. One of those conditions was that he not consume any alcohol.

Reached for comment this morning, Upshur County Prosecuting Attorney Darryl Pauwels said, “it is a shame that Mr. Grimaldi did not take more seriously the trust the judge put in him when he was released on bond. He’ll now have to suffer the consequences of that.”

Grimaldi’s wife, Sheree Grimaldi, adamantly denied that he had been drinking last night. “My husband hasn’t touched alcohol for three years, not even one drop. The idea that he was drunk last night is absurd.” When pressed for an explanation of his erratic behavior, she declined to comment.
